About St. Pio

St. Pio of Pietrelcina (1887–1968) was an Italian Capuchin friar and priest. He spent more than fifty years at the friary in San Giovanni Rotondo, where crowds came for his Masses and his confessional, and he bore the stigmata for most of his priesthood. Pope John Paul II canonized him in 2002. His feast day is September 23.

The visit is part of a pilgrimage of his relics through Central Florida, Nov. 10–15, with stops in Orlando and Daytona Beach after Lakeland.
